Preface

“Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge? Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?” T.S. Eliot

This book is for women considering breast augmentation.

In 2006, approximately 300,000 women in the United States had breast augmentation surgery. Worldwide, more than three million women have breast implants. The vast majority of these women are pleased with their results, but some are not. Why not? In many cases, prospective augmentation patients make poor decisions based on minimal information, impulse, and self-derived logic—then question the less-than-optimal results.

Your best chance for the best breast is the first operation. The questions you ask and the decisions you make before that first operation will largely determine the results. The more seriously you pursue information and knowledge before making decisions, the better the decisions and the better the chance of an optimal result.

Even in this age of exploding technology and information exchange, there was no single, comprehensive information resource for prospective breast augmentation patients—until now. This book is a comprehensive guide derived from forty-two years of combined experience treating augmentation patients, designing surgical techniques and implants, and, during the past seven years, redefining virtually every aspect of the patient and surgeon experience in breast augmentation. Information becomes knowledge when combined with a logical, common-sense, stepwise approach to making decisions that will help you in your quest for the best breast. This book provides information, knowledge, and common-sense tools to help you make the important decisions.

Decisions without knowledge are often flawed. the more you know, the better decisions you’ll make. the better decisions you make, the more likely you’ll have a good result... the best breast.
